You should install a water expansion tank in your building now that you know the ideal size for your system. Luckily, no specialized knowledge is needed for the procedure. You only need a few simple tools and this guide to finish this task. Although unnecessary, expansion tanks are one of the most helpful water heater accessories. Despite this, landlords and homeowners frequently decide to install this safety device in addition to their water heaters. This is a challenging DIY project, despite being the least difficult. It is most straightforward, and it is only sometimes possible to install the expansion tank simultaneously with the water heater.

Let’s see how to install a water heater expansion tank:

Attach a dielectric union

A dielectric union should be fastened to the cold water entry port once the water heater has been appropriately positioned. Using a pipe wrench or channel-lock pliers, thread the union into the hard water inlet port on the water heater after wrapping the union’s threads with pipe-sealing tape.

Attach copper adapter

Before attaching a female threaded copper adapter to the union, wrap several loops of pipe-sealing tape over the top threads of the union. When buying the best water heater Singapore, choose the famous shop.

Disconnect water and power

The shut-off valve on your supply line can stop the water flow. Turn off the electricity at the breaker for hot water heaters that are electric, and for gas-powered units, turn off the gas supply.

Check the location of the cold water supply line

Look for the cold water line that runs parallel to the water heater, and this is where you will connect the expansion tank.

Connect the tee fitting

Install a short length of a tee-fitting and copper pipe onto the water heater’s dielectric union adapter. Make sure the tee-fitting is one foot precisely above the water heater, so there is enough clearance for the expansion tank. Use either push-fit links or sweat-soldering to connect the components.

Attach expansion tank pipe

Depending on the available area, the length of the copper pipe would vary. But it is best to make it as brief as you can. Connect the female threaded adapter at the end of the horizontal pipe using a push-fit or sweat-soldering.

Attach the expansion tank

The threaded fitting on the waterheater expansion tank should be wrapped with pipe-sealing tape before being screwed onto the threaded adapter. To avoid harming the fittings or pipes, tighten threaded fittings using your hands. Install an additional valve if you can to separate the expansion tank from the system, allowing you to replace the tank quickly if necessary.

Complete the Installation

To finish the installation process, you must use the expansion tank piping schematic provided in the instructions. Use a pipe to connect the top outlet with the tee-fitting to the cold water supply pipe. Copper flex pipe would work well for this connection.

Additionally, finish attaching the hot water pipe to the water heater and turn the water heater on. Next, turn on the water valves to check for leaks and how they work.

Conclusion

The above details are about installing a water heater expansion tank. These are the steps you to follow while doing the installation process. If you are planning to buy a water heater, choose city energy as the perfect option because they sell high-quality home appliances.
